‎🇳🇬 Nigeria - Top Headlines

• Osun post-election fallout: APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji has finally congratulated Gov. Ademola Adeleke "in the spirit of democracy" after the recent Osun governorship election, while calling for an end to political violence. Adeleke has set up a Coroner Inquest/Panel to probe killings reported in Ikire on August 24.   

• 2027 politics heats up: APC campaign DG Abdulaziz Yari says anyone promising to return fuel subsidy is "lying to himself, deceiving Nigerians" — a response to ADC candidate Atiku Abubakar's promise of a targeted subsidy. Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo also tackled Atiku, saying "you can't reopen borders that aren't closed."   

• DSS & election security: The DSS has strengthened security around Atiku, Peter Obi and 16 other presidential candidates ahead of 2027, and is reportedly considering suspending its suit against Sowore till after the election.   

• Economy watch: CBN is selling N700bn Treasury Bills today in its second August auction amid liquidity concerns. Meanwhile Moody's has revised Nigeria's outlook to 'positive' — World Bank projects 4.2% growth for 2026.   

• NFF shake-up: NFF President Ibrahim Gusau and other board members have resigned following poor management of Nigerian football, per Vanguard review.

• Ukraine: Death toll from Russian strike on ammunition depot in Kyiv region rises to 38, with 4 still missing, President Zelenskyy says. It was the deadliest strike in the Kyiv area this year.   

• Zambia: Opposition leader Brian Mundubile charged with treason on Saturday and remains detained in Lusaka.   

• Guinea-Bissau: Military-led government to hold constitutional referendum today, August 30, that would expand presidential powers ahead of December elections.   

• Australia: Far-right party makes further gains, winning seat in Secret Harbour, Western Australia.  

‎• Sydney Marathon: Ethiopia's Gobena and Kenya's Jepchirchir take Sydney Marathon honours.  


‎⚽ Sports / Business

 • Liverpool held 2-2 by Nottingham Forest at Anfield — Victor Muñoz scored late on his full debut to rescue a point. Liverpool have also agreed a £123m deal for PSG forward Bradley Barcola.   

• Dangote Refinery driving seven-fold rise in Nigeria petroleum product exports — exports to Europe hit 130k bpd in Q22026 vs 40k bpd last year.
