STOP BORROWING PEOPLE YOUR ACCOUNT

 

PLEASE READ AND LEARN:  He was greeting me but I didn't recognise him.

I moved closer to him and I left my mouth opened in awe. He is a well known person.

The clothe plug, he owned a boutique so I buy clothes from him.

He was looking pale and lean with rashes all over his body. There were poka dots like on his skin, an infection probably from water or contaminated food.

He gave a faint smile as he read my expression towards him.

He used to be a fine chubby guy.

I walked him to a corner and the expression on my face was not a pleasant one.

"Bros, what happened?...what happened to you? Why are you...oh my God,  did you fall sick?" I queried. 

"Hmmm...bros, sha be thanking God for me that I am here, that I'm not dead, I lost everything bro...I suffered, I don't know maybe you notice that I didn't open my shop?" He asked and I told him I didn't notice because its been a while I pass his shop side.

"What really happened? Tell me please" I asked and he started.

"I was in my shop when one of the guys that owns the shop beside me came that I should borrow him my account number  he want to give it to some customers to pay for what they bought and I gave him, later in the day, I wanted to go and withdraw the money and noticed my card was declined so I walked into the bank the following morning to ask what the issue was...bro, in short, the police came in few minutes later after the manager told me to be patient while they work on it, they took me away...I was confused because I didn't know what I did, I was taken into custody and locked up....I couldn't contact anyone because my phones where seized....the following day, they removed me from where I was and locked me with some other guys...I have not contacted my people...we were brought out, removed our clothes and cuffed us, we were lined up...that was when the dpo started talking...."

When he got to that stage, I already knew what happened but was patient to hear him out.

He continued.

"He said the boys robbed someone, made him transfer all the money in his account to them, collected his car and killed him with his son that was with him in the car...."

I didn't know when I exclaimed ah!

"They killed him? Ah....that's wickedness" I exclaimed.

"Hmmm...bro, let me land...After then, they went to drop their bodies in the bush so that people won't find him, after they found him,  investigation started on him and they noticed money was removed from his account, all the account the money moved into was restricted and the text restriction was apprehend on sight, it did not end there...all the money that left all those accounts where also restricted and the owners were to be apprehended on sight...Two of those guys were the ones that came to buy clothes from the guy beside me but because he didn't have an account,  he came to borrow mine and that was how I ended up in trouble. "

He narrated. It was a sad one because I know the consequences of borrowing people account numbers.

The risk is so high if the fund is not coming from a trusted source.

He continued. 

"Bro, we were tortured,  beaten and tormented,  I kept explaining but they didn't believe me, the guy that came to borrow my account number denied knowing about it, they emptied my shop and sealed it, they threatened to kill us because we robbed an innocent man and killed him,  when I eventually got through to my people, they tried their possible best but with that, we were charged to court...different postponements and this resulted to another suffering...in short bro, one of them later confessed that I was not part of them, I was just a clothe seller that they paid for selling clothes to them...on the judgement day, those guys were sentenced to death and the rest of us that received money from their accounts but didn't know anything about what they did were discharged and acquainted." He narrated.

I thank God for your life bro, many don't even make it out alive.

" I thank God but I lost everything,  everything I spent years working for, nothing is left bro, my business, relationship, home, dignity, respect...everything bro...just because I borrowed someone my account number to receive money...I have learnt my lesson bro" he said.

I really pitied him...I gave him what I could and dropped him off.

I was driving and couldn't stop thinking about the whole thing. 

How life can change from sweet to bitter because of a little action, mistake or kindness.

Stop borrowing people your account number, it has landed many people in jail.

Don't be a victim of circumstances you know nothing about please.

*MORAL DECADENCE IN NIGERIA SOCIETY*

   *In understanding the above concept, it is said charity begins at home. To demonstrate this, family is very necessary. Family is the basic unit of every society and societies makes up a nation.

To start with, what is moral?

What is decadence?

What is society?

Moral, relating to principles of right and wrong in behavior.

Moral is Conforming to a standard of right behavior. It is ethical judgement.

Decadence is a state of moral or artistic decline or deterioration

Society is long standing group of people sharing cultural aspect such as language, dress, norms, behavior and artistic forms. 

It is a group of people who meet from time to time to engage in a common interest. 

   Moral values has almost reached the decline stage in Nigeria societies of today. As we all know moral upholds the dignity of every society which reflect nationally.

   Lack of morals has cost  us our dignity as a nation. This is why majority of our government officials see corruption as a normal way of life which is causing a big setback for Nigeria.

   It's high time we looked back and redefine our morals as citizens of this great nation so as to regain our integrity and dignity and take our stand again as the "Giant of Africa" in all ramifications.

THE MONSTER

 Retrospect of Chief Monofiki of Nigeria.

Major General Olufemi Olutoye (retd.), is now the traditional ruler of Ido-Ani in Ondo State, is one of the first graduates to join the Nigerian Army. He was compulsorily retired in 1977 by the General Olusegun Obasanjo regime.)

Major-General Olufemi Olutoye had asked to see the head of state, General Olusegun Obasanjo. As he waited for the head of state to come in, he went over in his mind what he would say. Then the head of state came in.

     As usual he was relaxed and keen as they shook hands.”You wanted to see me? Any problem? “Nothing really, said Olutoye, I just wondered if you do not think that you have made too many concessions to the North recently.”

     “Really what do you mean specifically?’ Replied Obasanjo” “For instance you said that both your photograph and the photograph of the former head of states (General Muritala Mohammed) should appear together throughout the country, but in many places in the North, only the picture of your predecessor can be found. Also in siting some projects, it would seem as if the rest of the country did not exist. At least if the North gets two, or three things, should the other parts of the country not have at least one?” Olutoye stopped speaking.

     “I see. Just wait for me.” Obasanjo said and left the room for some minutes. Olutoye wondered if Obasanjo was going to order his arrest. Then he dismissed the thought. Lt General Shehu Yar’Adua came in first, followed by Obasanjo. Shehu Yar’Adua was the Chief of Staff, Supreme Headquarters and the next person to the head of state. “Sit down Shehu.” said Obasanjo.”Olufemi can you repeat what you have just told me in front of Shehu?’ Olutoye repeated what he had said and left Dodan Barracks. Few hours later, he heard on the radio that he had been relieved of his post and retired from the Nigerian Army.

Take: OBJ went to court because of these pages and got an injunctions and the book was banned from Nigeria for so long. Fela Anikulapo Kuti went all the way to Cotonou, Togo and Ghana bought and brought lorry loads of this book to his shrine and People started going there to buy copies but you could not buy more than a copy. This was to prevent OBJ sending someone to mass buy all. Fela said: “i dey wait for the court bailiff wey go come enter here”.

     Later, the book was unbanned but every reprint would be bought out next day. The best book on Nigeria History as far as I am concerned. Prof Omotoso would have likely won a Nobel because of it.

     I read the real account of Gen Olutoye from the defunct Guard Magazine many years ago about the incident. Gen Olutoye was miffed with the way OBJ was retiring the southern officers without touching the northern officers. Olutoye went to Dodan barrack boldly and asked OBJ why was he doing that?. OBJ told Olutoye to sit down. He then picked a phone, call Shehu Yar’Adua and Theophilous Danjuma, who were the chief of staff, Supreme Headquarters and chief of Army Staff respectively. It was Shehu who came first and later Theo. Then OBJ asked Gen Olutoye to repeat in the presence of both what he, Olutoye told him. According to the report, Gen Olutoye was totally shocked of OBJ’s action. Even though Gen Olutoye never in his imagination thought that OBJ could do that to him, as a General in the army he summoned courage and repeated what he told OBJ in their absence. After that the three musketeers told Olutoye to go. Olutoye went outside and opened the radio gadget of his car. As he was driving home the first news item of the programme was that Gen Olutoye had voluntarily retired from the Nigeria army. Olutoye was shocked but he took it with all equanimity.

     Now! This is OBJ talking of Fulanization of Nigeria today. Let Obasanjo explain to us whether he was not Fulanized in 1979 when he worked for Alhaji Shehu Shagari and denied his Yoruba kinsmen of becoming a President, that apart from actively campaigning against Chief Awolowo as evident in his infamous statement that “the best man did not have to win the election,” he took many steps that effectively shut out the sage from winning.

     Some of these steps include the removal of Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, Justice Darnley Arthur Alexander before the hearing of the suit brought to challenge the results of 1979 elections by other political parties. Obasanjo was suspicious that Justice Alexander could not be manipulated to support Shehu Shagari of the National Party of Nigeria (NPN). Justice Alexander was replaced with Justice Atanda Fatai William.

     Other steps taken by Obasanjo to ensure that Chief Awolowo never became the President include the spurious midnight single handed “amendment” of the 1979 Constitution by him without the Supreme Military Council (SMC). Obasanjo had removed the clause from the Constitution that allowed for ELECTORAL COLLEGE if there was not a clear win.

NB: This is the same ugly face that goes around today pretending to be the champion of the Yoruba race. He is the most selfish & self conceited individual that ever lived. Trust him at your own peril. No nation can thrive  until cancerous tumours like him , TYD & their many parasites have been  *MEMORIES...*

*Ige, Governor of Oyo state and Afolabi his Deputy* had serious quarrel.

*Afolabi* was *OBJ's* senior in School, *Ige* was a friend of *OBJ.*

So OBJ called the duo for settlement. 

This angered *Adelakun, then UPN Leader and Commissioner in Oyo State,* he reported to *AWOLOWO.*

*AWOLOWO* summoned *Ige* and *Afolabi* to a meeting. He asked them why two brothers would be fighting and took their matter to the Family's Enemy....

_"This is a man who hates your father(AWO) and hates UPN but now pretending to love the sons of the man he hates....._ Ige was sweating profusely, he was embarrassed, he knew Awolowo was disappointed.

*Ige and Afolabi* begged *AWOLOWO* and baba relaxed.....

As *Ige* and *Afolabi* were going out, Awolowo called them back and said:

_*"Politically, I'm your leader, I love you both. If I use my mouth to cut kolanut for you, don't eat it but if I use my mouth to talk to you, hear and harken diligently. I know this life more than you, be careful. Whether I'm alive or dead, stay away from Olusegun Obasanjo. He hates people like you. And if you desist or reject my advice, OBASANJO will kill two of you just like what a wolf will do to antelopes..."*_

_The rest is history._

_Later the two were ministers under obj and died there._

Well make I give you a little elucidation and throway light for the matter .

Chief SM AFOLABI popularly called senior by baba Obj was the one that went to invite obj as pdp presidential candidate. 

Obj in return made him minister of interior and later right under his nose was jailed for corruption and the shame killed Afolabi. 

Cessario of ESa okeland was the attorney general under obj and he was killed in a clandestine operation with all his security outfits out of sight inside his bedroom apartment like a fowl. End.

Emmanuel Onuorah, the President of the Premium Breadmakers Association of Nigeria, tells BABATUNDE TUGBOBO about his career and issues affecting the break-making business

With the current increase in the price of bread, what does the future portend for bread consumers and bakers?

I can speak for the bakers but I cannot speak for the consumers. As the president of an association that bakes bread, I can tell you that it is a tough time for us (bakers). We are suffering. Jobs are being lost on a daily basis because bakeries are shutting down and are in comatose. It has been tough for us, post COVID-19 till now.

What stage of the baking process gulps the most money that is necessitating the increase in bread prices?

All the stages involved gulp a lot of money. Our raw materials are 100 per cent imported.

Some people believe that because there is no regulation of the prices of foodstuff across the nation, bread prices keep going up at will. What’s your response to that?

That is an erroneous way to think about it. Ordinarily, if we want to pass on the cost, sliced bread should be selling for a thousand naira now, but we still have some that go for N500, N550, N600, N650, and N700, depending on the ingredients used to bake it. We cover practically all strata of society. There is a nexus between increased prices and reduced sales, and it is a negative nexus. The moment prices are spiraling, sales drop. It does not benefit us in any way because once the price increases, it affects sales.

What needs to be done to improve the current situation?

The first thing is for the government to make deliberate efforts to ensure that the duty millers pay on wheat imports (30 per cent) is either frozen or removed. It is humongous because nobody does that anywhere in the world. The Federal Government must support small businesses through the Bank of Industry’s direct intervention from the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, and help in terms of soft loans and grants. That will go a long way.

Some bakers are said to use substandard materials for baking. In what ways does your association checkmate things like that?

To be a member of PBAN, you must subscribe to in-country regulation, NAFDAC regulation, you must not use unwholesome material, you must have your standard operating procedure, and your equipment must be properly calibrated. From time to time, compliance officers go around bakeries where they do their premix, to know what they use. Anyone who uses substandard materials (though we haven’t seen any), will be taken up and reported to the authorities.

Aside from the increase in the prices of materials used for baking, what other challenges is the industry facing?

The rising cost of diesel is one challenge, irregular electricity supply is another, harassment of our members by law enforcement agents on the road is something else, as well as unnecessary taxation from local governments. Also, officials of ministries of health in different states in Nigeria burst into bakeries and beat up people without any notice.

Sometime last year, some bakers took to the streets to protest what they termed ‘persistent exploitation’. How were you able to resolve the crisis?

Graciously, the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudasiru Obasa; the house’s committee on commerce and local government liaison got across to us. They got all the agencies we complained about to sit with us in the assembly, and far-reaching decisions were taken as to whom we should meet if we had any problems. Since then, the Lagos State government has been cooperative. The harassment has reduced in Lagos, but it is not the same in other states. Our protest was in Lagos because of the level of harassment we faced. We were also introduced to the Lagos State Employability Trust Fund, and they have been helpful. They give (our members) grants and loans once the requirements are met.

How do you foresee bread prices in the coming days if not checked?

The prices will keep going up because it is a function of ‘garbage in, garbage out’. It is what we buy that we sell. One cannot buy flour that used to be N10,300 for N29,000, and sell the finished products at the same price. If the prices of raw materials keep soaring, one would have to keep increasing price to be competitive, albeit not arbitrarily, but in a way that one will be able to break even.

How long have you been in the bread-making business?

I have been doing this business for about six years.

What attracted you to this line of business?

I looked at the environment, and asked myself what I could do. I said to myself that I should look into an everyday product that can fetch me money. With the payoff I got from the company I used to work for and assistance from the bank, I was able to start the business.

Take us through your career trajectory before getting to this point?

I started working in 1990 or thereabout. Companies I have worked with over the years include Texaco, UMCC (where I worked as a contract staff), ELPA (an oil field engineering company), and South Atlantic Petroleum Limited, before retiring in 2015.

As a baker, how many times do you eat bread in a week?

I am on the big side and bread is a heavy food, so I am mindful of weight gain and obesity.  I eat bread but when I do, I try as much as possible to burn it by exercising. I eat it about once a week. I take toast bread with vegetables and a cup of tea, so it can be balanced.

What are your educational qualifications?

I had my elementary education at Olodi Primary School, Warri, Delta State. From there, I went to Ogoripo Secondary School. After that, I attended the Petroleum Training Institute, Effurun, Delta State, where I bagged a Higher National Diploma. From there, I went for a Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum and Gas Engineering at the University of Port Harcourt. I have attended training in different parts of the world, including the United States of America, Tunisia, England and South Africa.

Also, I am a fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Safety Professionals, as well as a chartered environmentalist, and environmental auditor.

What are the challenges you face as the president of the Premium Bakers Association of Nigeria?

I face a lot of challenges because people in more than 30,000 bakeries all over Nigeria look up to me. I have to provide adequate leadership for them, give them a shoulder to lean on, as well as the right strategy and direction for them.

What is your favourite colour?

My favourite colour is brown.

What is your favourite food?

My favourite food is fufu with bitterleaf soup. I also like starch with banga soup.

How do you unwind?

I unwind by being with my wife and children. We usually visit the beach together.
